Sakinaka police on Thursday arrested three males for allegedly robbing a 38-year-old lady of her gold chain price Rs15,000 close to JP Hospital on Andheri-Kurla street.
The accused have been recognized as Shivaji Nagar resident Pir Mohammad Shaikh, 23; Govandi resident Arar Abdul Khan, 18, and Kurla resident Adil Shaikh, 21.
According to the complainant Afsana Shah, an autorickshaw ran over her daughter Gausia’s foot whereas the duo had been for a stroll. While she was tending to her daughter’s damage, two bike-borne males snatched her chain and fled the spot.
“After Shah raised an alarm, two people came to her help and chased the accused on their bike. One of them also contacted the police control room, following which a team from Sakinaka police station intercepted the accused and arrested Shaikh and Khan,” mentioned a police officer from Sakinaka police station.
During their questioning, the police found that Adil who’s an autorickshaw driver, was Shaikh and Khan’s confederate and he had brought about the accident to divert Shah’s consideration. The police then arrested him from his residence in Kurla.
The trio have been booked underneath sections 392 (punishment for theft), 279 (rash driving or using on a public manner), 337 (inflicting damage by act endangering life or private security of others) and 34 (frequent intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Adil can be booked underneath part 134 (a) (b) [duty of driver in case of accident and injury to a person] of Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
