Ahead of Dussehra, the Centre introduced bonus for 12 months 2019-2020 which can profit 30 lakh non-gazetted staff. The complete monetary implication of this might be Rs 3,737 crore. Both productivity-linked bonus and non-productivity-linked bonus have been permitted, Union minister Prakash Javadekar stated on Wednesday, saying the selections permitted by the Union Cabinet.

The announcement brings cheer amongst authorities staff as uncertainty loomed massive over bonus announcement this 12 months, owing to Covid-19 pandemic. The bonus might be disbursed at one instalment and earlier than Vijaya Dashami, the Union minister stated.

The beneficiaries embrace 17 lakh non-gazetted staff from business institutions like railways, put up workplace, EPFO, ESIC who will get their productivity-linked bonus and different 13 lakh authorities staff who will get their non-productivity-linked bonus.

All India Railways Federation — a union of railways workers — had referred to as for a nationwide two-hour strike on October 22, demanding fast disbursal of the bonus. The union stated the federal government shouldn’t deny bonus pertaining to 2019-20 citing this 12 months’s pandemic.

“If middle class people have money in their hands during the festive season, demands will go up in the marker,” the minister stated explaining the choice.
