,Delhi University has determined to defer closing yr examinations amid rising COVID-19 instances within the metropolis, officers stated on Sunday.

The closing yr and closing semester exams have been supposed to start from May 15 however will now start from June 1. They shall be performed on-line and held in open e-book format.

“We held a meeting on Saturday with all the heads of departments and deans. The meeting was chaired by the vice-chancellor. It was decided that the exams will be postponed to June 1,” D S Rawat, Dean of Examinations, DU, stated.

Rawat stated the choice on exams for intermediate semesters shall be taken later.

He stated the examination department officers have been battling coronavirus and on Sunday morning two staff — a piece officer and a contractual workers — succumbed to COVID-19.

When requested if the exams might be deferred past June 1, he stated it could not be potential.

“Many students have got job offers and in order to accept them, they need to have their final results. Students have also applied to foreign universities and require results within a time frame,” he stated.

Teachers have been given time until May 10 to submit query papers.

Teachers and college students have been demanding the deferment of exams and even cancellation.

The Delhi University Teachers’ Association had written to appearing vice-chancellor Professor PC Joshi over the difficulty.

“The university must take a sensitive view of the situation that students and teachers find themselves in — no one is in a position to write or conduct examinations at this moment.

“Hence, we request you to think about cancelling examinations for all college students and resolve upon different means to judge college students. Deadlines for submission of inside evaluation have to be prolonged,” they’d stated in a letter dated April 30.
